The Australian Open championship returned Novak Djokovic to the top of the ATP rankings on Monday. During the 50-year history of computerized rankings for men’s tennis, his rise from No. 5 to No. 1 is the largest jump from No. 5 to No. 1. Aryna Sabalenka’s first major title moved her up to No. 2 in the WTA rankings, behind only three-time major champion Iga Swiatek.

No. 3 Ons Jabeur, twice a Slam finalist in 2022, is followed by No. 4 Jessica Pegula, No. 5 Caroline Garcia and No. 6 Coco Gauff. Alcaraz ranks No. 2. A 19-year-old, he became the youngest No. 1 after winning the U.S. Open in September. Due to a leg injury, Alcaraz missed the Australian Open.

Nadal fell to No. 6 after injuring his left hip flexor against Mackenzie McDonald of the United States in the second round. With his run in Melbourne, Tsitsipas moved from No. 4 to No. 3; if he had won, he would have become No. 1. The Netherlands’ Casper Ruud, who lost in the second round to United States’ Jenson Brooksby, dropped from No. 3 to No. 4. With a quarterfinal appearance, Andrey Rublev is No. 5.
